Behind the Scenes: A Day at APOTHEKE

In our magazine series, Hoppin will take you behind-the-scenes of a variety of careers and workspaces so you can get better perspective of what it might be like working in that job or industry. Born out of recent job shadowing experience at APOTHEKE, we give you a glimpse of a day in the life of a founder building a luxury home fragrance brand.

At Hoppin, we believe that you can’t possibly know if a job is right for you without experiencing it first. So we’re creating a world where trying jobs is as fast and easy as booking a hotel room. Old methods of learning a trade or profession are quickly becoming outdated as required knowledge and skill sets change faster than education programs can keep up with.

It can be an overwhelming process to find a job you love. This is where Ko Im comes in. Ko has always been curious about working in the aromatherapy space and has been a longtime fan of APOTHEKE. Ko used the Hoppin platform to book a full day job shadowing experience with Founder, Chrissy Fichtl, to get a closer look at what life would be like building and growing a luxury brand.

The Hoppin Experience

What are you currently working on?

Different forms of writing and storytelling as well as personal and professional exploration.

What are you looking to do?

Walk the walk.

Why did you decide to shadow at APOTHEKE?

The company seemed really interesting to me because I love aromatherapy and have heard wonderful things about the founder.

What excited you about shadowing?

Who doesn't want to get hands-on experience in a beautifully aromatic environment and chat about process and building a brand?

What surprised you during your time at APOTHEKE?

I was surprised to learn that everything is still handcrafted with care in Brooklyn.

What did you do during the experience?

On my Hoppin experience we did soap pouring, candlewicking and packaging, plus talking shop. I was able to see how hands on things are and how the business operated from the inside out. This experience made me realize that a small business is run like a working family.

What's your biggest takeaway?

You can find success and you can have dreams.
